Lies of Our Parents

We were lied to when our parents and teachers said we could become
“whoever we wanted,” that we could do “whatever we dreamed.”

Not because these things are not true (they are) but because they did not believe in them, nor did they understand how they could ever be true. To them it was a fairy tale, a distraction, but it was they who yearned for distraction, for they had forgotten that fairy tales can come true.

“…if you’re young at heart.”
