Sierra Nevada: Oktoberfest
Brewery: Sierra Nevada (Chico, CA)
Beer Advocate: 90
Sierra Nevada is a big brewery that still manages to make a quality product on a consistent basis. Their Pale Ale might be old news, but the breadth of their doman is quite substantial. From well hopped IPA’s to creative takes on Goses and Pilsners to the always excellent Bigfoot Barleywine, Sierra Nevada has slowly won me over in the last couple of years. Now they’ve partnered with Bamberg, Germany’s Mahrs Bräu to bring a fresh take to this fall seasonal.
Eyes and Nose: Yellow/gold in color with about 90% of light clearance. Foamy, white head that slowly dissipates. Grass and barely on the nose
Mouth: Crisp and clean on the front of the tongue, malty and caramel on the back. Light and airy and easy drinking
Rating: All in all, this is a pretty good Autumn Lager. It has enough flavor and hoppiness to keep it interesting, and I would have another for sure. That said, it still feels empty as is typical of the style.
Zim Score: 3.25/5
